Northen Ireland
Sur une idée de Jenny, nous nous sommes organisés au dernier moment un voyage pour 4 (Mag, Nico, Jenny et moi) en Irlande du Nord.
Départ de Dublin avec une voiture de location (plus grosse que prévu).
On Jenny's idea, we organised a trip to Northern Ireland for 4 people (Mag, Nico, Jenny and I) at the last minute.
Departure from Dublin with a rented car (bigger than expected)
Belfast :
Ce fut la première étape de notre voyage. Tout de suite, c'est très différent de Dublin, dur à dire pourquoi mais ça fait plus "continental". Peut-être les rues plus larges et l'absence de bruit aux passages piétons.
Le centre ville n'est pas immense mais sympathique (avec un marché de Noël de saison et une grande roue pour touristes, comme nous :p) malgré l'absence impressionnante d'activités en soirée et de restaurants/pubs.
That was the first step of our travel. After just one look we can see that is very different to Dublin. Hard to say why but it seems more 'continental'. Maybe the larger streets and absence of noise on the pedestrian crossing.
The city center is not huge but pleasant (with a Christmas market and a big wheel for tourists like us :p) in spite of this there are not a lot of activities at night like restaurants or pubs.
(London)Derry :
Après Belfast, direction Derry (les anglais rajouteront "London" devant).
Avec une température frisant les -5°. Du coup la route sans éclairage et non dégelée en arrivant de nuit au B&B fut un poil stressante (sans parler de la chasse au trésor ensuite pour trouver les clefs des chambres... ).
La ville, bien qu'un peu déserte, reste intéressante à visiter. Surtout pour voir les différences entre l'intérieur et l'extérieur du centre ville entouré par un mur d'enceinte séparant les quartiers pro-anglais de ceux pro-irlandais.
After Belfast, we headed to Derry (the English will add 'London' in the front).
With a temperature close to -5°. So the frozen and none unlit road to get to the B&B was a little bit stressful (and I don't say anything about the treasure hunting to find the keys for the rooms...).
The town, although desert, is still interesting to visit. Especially to see the differences between the 2 sides of the wall which surrounds the city center and splits the pro-Irish and the pro-English districts of the town.
Dunluce Castle :
Sur la route côtière pour rejoindre "The Giant's Causeway", nous faisons un arrêt au "Dunluce Castle".
Bâti sur une falaise, il a la particularité d'avoir la moitié des cuisines 100 mètres plus bas dans la mer.
Les ruines sont bien entretenues par un descendant des anciens propriétaires des lieux qui sont partis après la disparition des cuisines (plus de bouffe, on se casse. Raisonnement logique).
On the coast road to get to 'The Giant's Causeway', we do a stop at 'Dunluce Castle'.
Build on a cliff, this castle has the particularity to have the half of the kitchen 100 meters lower than the rest, in the sea.
The ruins are well maintain by the descendant of the old landlords who have left the place after the disappearance of the kitchen (no eat, we go. sounds reasoning).
The Giant's Causeway :
Enfin, arrivés à la fameuse chaussée des géants où malgré le vent, le froid et la taille pas si impressionnante du site, il y a constamment un nombre impressionnant de visiteurs.
Cela dit c'est vrai que ça vaut le coup d'oeil et que la légende du site (que Mag raconte très bien ici) est très sympathique.
Finally, arriving at the famous Giant's Causeway where there is a lot of wind, a low temperature and a causeway not so giant but a lot of tourists.
That being said, it's true that it's to be seen and the legend of the area (describe by Mag here) is really pleasant.
Puis retour vers Dublin après un arrêt au stand à Ballycastle pour manger.
La route n'était tout de même pas évidente (principalement à cause de l'éclairage), du moins jusqu'à la frontière où ça allait mieux ensuite.
Then the return to Dublin after a last break at Ballycastle for dinner.
The road was not easy (mainly because of the unlit road) at least until the frontier then it was better.
